Crafting – the Struggle is Real

Hey, everyone! It’s a new year, and that means new projects here at my house.

Finding Home is on sale at all the major online retailers, and my ducks are lining up in a nice, neat row to get Finding Love released to you this spring.

Which means I have plenty of time to work on book 2.5 in the Second Chances series, a little novella with a lot of heart. These two characters worked their way into my affection in Finding Love, and just wouldn’t let go! It seemed only fair to give them their own story, and things are moving along splendidly for them.

But as much as I’d love to, I can’t write all the time. I might have mentioned once or twice that I enjoy making things. In 2016, I took a crack at building a side table out of wood and plumber piping, and wall shelves out of an old pallet. I crocheted a couple baby blankets for expectant family members, and took a stab at making mason jar candles for the first time. Finally, I built a really neat terrarium out of inexpensive picture frames, which my kids promptly dubbed ‘plant jail’.

This year, before I hit Pinterest to come up with another fun craft, I am determined to finish up an embroidery project that has been hanging over my head for years. Seven years, to be exact. Yup, you read that right: Seven Years. It is the biggest, most gorgeous Christmas sampler you’ve ever seen, and I bought it the day after Christmas one year, when the price dropped from over $100 to about $10. I used to do more of that sort of thing back then, when my eyes were a wee bit younger. Now, the light has to be just right, and there seem to be a remarkable number of excuses at any given moment for why I can’t pick it up. You see how I’ve gotten to this point. But this is it – I’m in the home stretch, and I’m cracking down. No new projects until I finish stitching my big white whale of a craft.

So tell me, what do you want to work on this year?

  1. Well….I have a pile of books (including yours) that I plan to read this year!!! I also have a more daunting task at hand – I (with hubby) plan to tackle redoing my downstairs which experienced water damage this past year!
